Frequently asked questions
When should I convert JPG to PNG?
Mostly when you need a lossless format to keep editing the image, or when a program, printer or platform specifically requires a PNG file. The result is usually larger than the original JPG, because PNG doesn't compress with loss — you trade disk space for guaranteed quality in further edits. If you only need to share the photo as it is, there's no advantage in converting; keep the JPG.
Do I gain quality by converting?
No. Converting to PNG doesn't recover the detail the JPG already lost in its first compression — that's irreversible, whatever the output format. What you gain is avoiding new losses from now on: if you save the file several times during an edit, PNG always keeps the same quality, while saving repeatedly in JPG degrades the image a little more each time.
Does the photo leave my device?
No. All the processing happens inside your own browser — the photo is never sent to our servers or anywhere else. The result is a new file that you download directly; the original JPG stays untouched on your device. It works the same way on a phone or a computer, with nothing to install and no account needed.
