What are refurbished phones?
A refurbished phone is a smartphone that has been used, returned or swapped and then professionally tested, repaired (if necessary) and certified for resale. At iOutlet, each phone undergoes more than 30 quality tests: screen, cameras, battery, connectivity, sensors and carrier unlock.
The difference between refurbished and used is simple: a refurbished device has warranty, documented tests and a responsible company behind it. A used device bought from an individual has none of that.
The price difference comes from the refurbishment process, not from component quality.
How we refurbish each phone
Before any phone enters iOutlet stock it goes through 7 mandatory steps. The process is carried out by our certified European refurbishment network. The average duration is 4 to 7 working days per device.
- Initial collection and classification. Origin in trade-ins, returns and excess from European operators. Each unit receives an internal ID before any handling.
- Technical diagnosis of 30 points. Screen, touch, front and rear cameras, microphone, speaker, sensors, GPS, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, battery and capacity - verified with PhoneCheck software and our own test banks.
- Repair or disposal. Defective parts are replaced with original or OEM-equivalent components. Units with damaged motherboards are recycled.
- Certified data erasure. Blancco wipe at DoD 5220.22-M level with per‑unit report. Activation Lock removed. SIM ejected.
- Original software installed. Current version of iOS or Android for the model, with no modified firmware or third‑party apps.
- Visual grade classification. Grade A with no visible marks, Grade B with minimal marks up to 30 cm, Grade C with visible marks. All retain the same technical performance.
- Packaging and delivery to iOutlet. Neutral box with a compatible USB‑C or Lightning cable and quick guide. No earphones (EU norm 2022).
We are producing a video of the process in our partner's refurbishing laboratory. When ready, it will be available on this page and on about iOutlet.

| Resists the test of time | Retains resale value | Depreciates faster |
| Best for | Those who want simplicity and longevity | Those who want flexibility and customisation |
Verdict: If you already use Apple products (Mac, iPad, AirPods), the iPhone is the natural choice. If you prefer Android, with more customisation options or foldable screens, the Samsung Galaxy is the better bet. In terms of longevity and updates, the iPhone still has the edge.

What is the difference between refurbished and used?
A refurbished phone is professionally tested, graded, sold with a warranty and invoiced by a company. A used phone (OLX, Facebook) is sold as‑is without testing, without a warranty and with no recourse if a problem arises.
Does a refurbished mobile phone work with my network operator?
Yes. All smartphones at iOutlet are unlocked and work with any Portuguese network - MEO, NOS, Vodafone, DIGI or any other. They also work with any European network.
Can I pay in installments?

How can I be sure the mobile phone isn’t stolen?
All mobile phones come with a documented IMEI that is checked against the GSMA's CheckMEND database. This database includes theft-block records from more than 50 European operators. iOutlet does not accept stock that fails this verification.
Does the phone come with an Apple ID or Google account locked?
No. Step 4 of the process is the Blancco certified wipe, which removes any previous ID. The phone is delivered ready to be set up with the customer's new account. If you receive a locked device, iOutlet will replace it or refund you within the first 14 days.
What is Margin VAT and how does it affect the price?
Margin VAT is the tax regime applied to second-hand goods, including refurbished items. Instead of applying 23% to the total price, VAT is charged only on the seller's margin. The result is a lower final price. On the invoice it appears as "Special regime for second-hand goods".
Note: the refurbished smartphone market grew 12,5% in 2024, reaching 67,84 billion dollars globally (Mordor Intelligence, 2024). Apple supports iPhones with updates for 5 to 6 years after launch (Macworld, 2026).
