When receiving a refurbished phone or laptop, first confirm it matches your order and then test normal usage functions. Set it up calmly, document any differences and contact support if something is not correct. You do not need to dismantle the equipment or perform aggressive tests.

Before switching on: order and condition
- Compare model, capacity, colour and configuration with your order.
- Inspect the packaging and record any visible damage, if present.
- Confirm the accessories described as included.
- Examine the screen, casing, ports and keyboard without dismantling the equipment.
- Compare the condition with the advertised grade and the notes on the specification sheet.
Appearance should be assessed in light of the purchased condition. Signs of use and functional defects are separate matters. A generic manufacturer image also does not necessarily represent the marks on the unit received.
Phone checklist
| Function | Normal usage test |
|---|---|
| Screen and touch | Open several apps, type and verify the touch responds across the used area |
| Cameras | Take photos with the front and rear cameras and record a short video |
| Microphone and sound | Record your voice and make a test call |
| Network | Test Wi-Fi and the compatible SIM or eSIM card for the configuration |
| Charging | Use a compatible charger and cable and observe if charging begins |
| Unlocking | Set up the available method and test it |
If the initial setup asks for credentials from a previous owner, stop the process and contact the seller. Do not attempt to bypass activation locks. Also do not publicly share IMEI, serial numbers, codes or images containing personal data.
Laptop checklist
- Confirm processor, RAM and SSD in system information.
- Test letters, numbers and symbols with the correct keyboard layout.
- Open a document, use the touchpad and check the buttons.
- Make a short video call to test webcam and microphone.
- Test Wi-Fi and the ports you need, with compatible peripherals.
- Confirm charging and observe operation with and without power.
- Verify the activation status of the advertised operating system.
If a message appears requiring an account from a previous company or unexpected device management, record the message and request support. Do not enter your work credentials nor attempt to remove management using unknown tools.
Battery: observe real behaviour
Initial setup may involve updates, synchronisation and app installation. This work can consume more energy than normal use. Assess behaviour during normal tasks, without concluding autonomy solely from the first few minutes.
If the device shuts down unexpectedly, does not charge or overheats abnormally, record the circumstances and request support. If there is swelling, an unusual smell or damage indicating physical risk, stop use and do not continue charging. Do not pierce or puncture the battery.
What is not a proper test
Do not submerge the phone in water, do not force connectors and do not dismantle the equipment to check components. Do not install diagnostic apps from unknown sources. A test should reproduce normal use and not create new damage.
If you find someone else's data, do not explore the files nor publish them. Contact the seller privately to resolve the situation.
How to report a problem
Use the purchase support or the procedure indicated on the warranty page. Include your order reference, the symptom and the steps to reproduce it. Photographs or a short video can help, provided they do not expose passwords or other personal data.
Keep relevant documentation. Retaining the packaging may aid transport, but the absence of the original packaging does not, by itself, remove legal warranty rights. Do not send the equipment to an assumed address; follow the return instructions received.
This checklist does not reduce your rights
The tests are a practical aid, not an obligation to detect all faults immediately. For distance purchases covered by EU consumer legislation, there is generally a 14-day period for free withdrawal, with legal conditions and exceptions. Non-conformity and free withdrawal are different procedures.
Consult the iOutlet return conditions and the European Union information on guarantees and returns. Mandatory rights applicable in your country remain; this guide does not create a shorter period for making a claim.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to film the unpacking?
This is not a condition created by this guide. If there is a problem, document it reasonably and report it via the indicated channel.
Should I wipe the device before requesting support?
First record the symptom and request instructions. Before a return, protect your data and follow guidance on accounts and locks.
Does a fault discovered later lose coverage?
This checklist does not alter the warranty or legal rights. The situation must be analysed according to the problem and applicable conditions.
