Apple has no plans to release a significantly updated AirPods Max 2
According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple currently has no "concrete plans" to update the AirPods Max "in a significant way," which should come as no surprise given that the company just refreshed the AirPods Max in September.
The AirPods Max received only two changes in September: a USB-C charging port instead of Lightning and new colour options. However, the headphones did not get Apple's H2 chip, which debuted in the AirPods Pro 2 a few years ago. This means they still lack Adaptive Audio features and there have been no improvements to active noise cancellation.
The AirPods Max still rely on the H1 chip introduced by Apple in 2019, and despite this, the price of the $549 headphones has not changed. Gurman believes sales of the AirPods Max are too low for Apple to justify allocating more development resources to the headphones.
