Technological innovation often lies not in the flashiest features, but in the functional improvements that affect how we use our devices every day.

Functional Innovations in Smartphones
In a market saturated with visual updates, the functional innovations in smartphones are often overlooked. Apple's new design approach with Liquid Glass in iOS 26 is a clear example of a visually appealing update that does not fundamentally change the user experience. In contrast, Honor, with its Magic 7 Pro, focuses on practical improvements. The Chinese brand has been making a name for itself by introducing features that genuinely improve the daily usability of its devices.
Technical Details
One of Honor's most notable innovations is the concept of "super folders". Instead of small icons requiring an extra tap to open, these folders allow for free-form expansion, displaying smaller icons that are easily accessible. This clever design maximises the available screen space and simplifies navigation between apps.
Market Impact
Honor's approach has generated a significant impact on the market, especially among users who value function over form. While brands like Samsung and Apple continue to invest in elaborate designs, the lack of genuinely useful customisation options may be causing disinterest among more demanding consumers.
Future Prospects
The future may see a shift in how the big brands approach software development. With increasing pressure to innovate more quickly and effectively, we may see greater adoption of practical features similar to those from Honor. This trend could lead to a better balance between aesthetics and functionality in upcoming smartphone releases.
