Apple is working on improving Siri's capabilities within and across apps through Apple Intelligence on iOS 18, which will lay the groundwork for the Siri update. For this feature, Apple will use a first-generation Apple LLM to assess requests and determine whether the existing Siri infrastructure should be used, or whether a second LLM capable of handling more complex requests should be consulted.
The new Siri is currently being tested in a separate app on iPhones, iPads and Macs, but will eventually replace the current version of Siri. The Siri update could be announced as early as 2025, likely during the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, where Apple will reveal iOS 19.
